Case Study: Envoys Global Educators Conference (2025) — Counter-Narratives Walking Workshop, Little Havana

Envoys invited me to design and lead a full-day, place-based workshop in Little Havana for educators attending the 2025 Global Educators Conference. We began with the neighborhood’s familiar “single story,” then surfaced counter-narratives through guided observation, team themes, and on-site dialogue.
Along the route, educators engaged with local residents, artists, and business owners, from the woman owner of the Cuban restaurant where we lunched to Latine hip-hop artists and muralists. We ended at a community arts space, where community leaders and an Afro-Cuban dance teacher told their stories in their own words.
The experience modeled decolonial, relational pedagogy—attention, mapping, story, movement—and sent participants home with classroom-ready prompts and frameworks for teaching place, power, and memory. Participants named the session a conference highlight and left energized to keep learning and applying these practices.
One of my absolute favorite parts of the conference…I left feeling incredibly curious—with a real hunger to keep learning…The relationships you’ve built, the way the community responded to you, and the power of the conversations you facilitated were nothing short of inspiring.
